چکیده

Corresponding Author: Eugenio Chiarello, MD; e-mail: [email protected] the occurrence of abnormal soft tissue reactions, sometimes called pseudotumours, following MOMHR5-9. However, the exact biological pathway that leads to the local effects seen in MOMHR hips remains unclear10. We report a particular case of pseudotumour formation after MOMHR in a female who previously worked as an hairdresser. To investigate occupational exposure to metals prior to prosthetic surgery in order to limit pseudotumour risk is clinically relevant both for patients and surgeons. Moreover, clarifying the pseudotumour pathogenesis would increase the safety of metal-based implants.

Hip resurfacings revised for inflammatory pseudotumour have a poor outcome.

Inflammatory pseudotumours occasionally occur after metal-on-metal hip resurfacing and often lead to revision. Our aim was to determine the severity of this complication by assessing the outcome of revision in these circumstances and by comparing this with the outcome of other metal-on-metal hip resurfacing revisions as well as that of matched primary total hip replacements. We identified 53 hi...

Analysis of wear of retrieved metal-on-metal hip resurfacing implants revised due to pseudotumours.

The presence of pseudotumours, which are soft-tissue masses relating to the hip, after metal-on-metal hip resurfacing arthroplasty has been associated with elevated levels of metal ions in serum, suggesting that pseudotumours occur when there is increased wear. We aimed to quantify the wear in vivo of implants revised for pseudotumours (eight) and of a control group of implants (22) revised for...

The relationship between head-neck ratio and pseudotumour formation in metal-on-metal resurfacing arthroplasty of the hip.

Pseudotumour is a rare but important complication of metal-on-metal hip resurfacing that occurs much more commonly in women than in men. We examined the relationship between head-neck ratio (HNR) and pseudotumour formation in 18 resurfaced hips (18 patients) revised for pseudotumour and 42 asymptomatic control resurfaced hips (42 patients). Patients in whom pseudotumour formation had occurred h...

Hip Arthroplasty and its Revision in a Child: Case Report and Literature Review

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is the leading cause of hip replacement in young children. However, arthroplasty in this population is challenging with several concerns about quality of the growing bone, young age for revision surgery, and difficulties in potential several revisions. In this study we introduce a case of a 12-year old who is one of the youngest patients to undergo revision hip art...
